Oprah’s New Earth Course Starting Soon!

The best way of assimilating the teachings of A New Earth is through reading and re-reading the book. As Eckhart says on page 6, “As you read, a shift takes place within you.”

Oprah’s Book Pick: A New Earth - Chapter 1
In Chapter 1 of “A New Earth,” author Eckhart Tolle says on page 7, “This book is about you.” What has resonated with you in Chapter 1, that can be related to your life experience right now? Do you have challenges in your life right now that you believe this book can help you overcome? Do you have questions about Chapter 1? If something in Chapter 1, has struck a nerve with your personal life experience, you can email them your thoughts and questions.

There is a guided journal that will be your companion to Oprah and Eckhart’s classes. As you read each chapter, you can use the workbook exercises and your personal space online to record observations, questions and important notes. Then, print a copy to keep by your side during class. You can always come back to change or add to your answers or write down anything from class that confused, moved or surprised you.
As you answer each question, you don’t need to have fully formed answers yet—that will happen as you read further. There are no right answers, and all of your reactions—doubt, skepticism, confusion, understanding, aha! moments, energy, peacefulness—are important steps along the path of awakening.
Also Kim Eng, Eckhart Tolle’s partner and a teacher in her own right, will be joining readers for Eckhart and Oprah’s live Web classes and blogging afterward. Eckhart says she is a woman who brings a “down-to-earth approach to spirituality.”

There are simple things you can do to bring this about. Eckhart suggests taking any routine activity that normally is only a means to an end and giving it your fullest attention. By practicing this way, you “become the change” and contribute to a new earth. There is one certain criterion by which you can measure your success in this practice: the degree of peace that you feel within.
Try This…
Every time you walk up and down the stairs in your house or place of work, pay close attention to every step, every movement, even your breathing. Be totally present.
When you wash your hands, pay attention to all the sensory perceptions associated with the activity: the sound and feel of the water, the movement of your hands, the scent of the soap and so on.
When you get into your car, after you close the door, pause for a few seconds and observe the flow of your breath. Become aware of a silent but powerful sense of presence.
Choose one or two activities that you do routinely and bring your attention to them in the same way as the three activities described above.
